4 types of habits
If you want to deliberately build habits,
You have to understand the 4 types of habits so you know which ones to break and which ones to intentionally build
The four categories of habits are
POSITIVE HABITS
SPIRITUAL HABITS
NEGATIVE HABITS
SINFUL HABITS
1. Positive habits improve our lives in a general way (e.g. Bathing twice a day, drinking water first thing in the morning, switching of all mobile deceives at 7pm, complimenting people). These will ensure you are healthy, and well rounded in life.
2. Spiritual habits These are more specific habits, than the positive habits that improve you generally. Spiritual habits focus on making you more Christlike (e.g., prayer, Bible study, thanksgiving and worship as part of your prayer routine, talking to people about Jesus).
Acts 6:4 KJV
[4] But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
Luke 5:16 NIV
[16] But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
3. Negative habits generally have negative effects on our lives (e.g., eating junk food, not having enough sleep)
Acts 17:21 NIV
[21] (All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing but talking about and listening to the latest ideas.)
4. Sinful habits , affects our spiritual lives (lying, cheating, anger) They lead us away from God and to our destruction. How we deal with these four types of habits are quite different, so we’ll consider each of them separately.
Acts 7:51 NIV
[51] “You stiff-necked people! Your hearts and ears are still uncircumcised. You are just like your ancestors: You always resist the Holy Spirit!
Galatians 5:19-21 KJV
[19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these ; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, [20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, [21] Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
